DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1
Arrival in Bangkok and transfer to Hotel
Upon arrival at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, meet your guide and enjoy a pleasant private transfer to your downtown hotel. The rest of the day is free at your leisure.
Day 2
Chatuchak Weekend Market and Chinatown Evening Foodie Walk
This morning you will meet your guide and head to the Chatuchak Weekend Market, where an estimated 5,000 vendor stalls cater to 80,000 visitors looking to purchase everything from the mundane, such as housewares and handicrafts, to the bizarre, like live snakes and animals! Transfer back to your hotel to freshen up for an evening tour.
Enjoy a mouth-watering exploration of Bangkok’s 200-year-old China Town district by visiting tasty eateries, from sit-on-the-pavement-vendors to characterful restaurants. This evening you will be picked up from your hotel and guided through China Town’s most characterful alleys, and then enjoy the magnificent views of the River from a local rooftop bar. Here you’ll be given a short briefing by your guide and enjoy a drink while watching the setting sun. Then jump on board a tuk tuk to head deep into Chinatown to start our fascinating tour. You’ll be able to sample all kinds of dishes (and a few local drinks too!) from the likes of dim sum, dumplings, fresh seafood, local deserts and more! Throughout the evening your knowledgeable guide will explain the background of all the different food and drink you’ll taste, as well as giving their own insight into the local area.
It’s soon time to stop before your stomach explodes and your evening will finish with a drink in a lovely open air bar from where you can sit in comfort and watch the hustle and bustle of China Town.
Afterwards you will be transferred back to your hotel.
Day 3
Maeklong Train Market
After breakfast you will meet with your guide and be driven to the old fishing port of Samut Songkram, locally known as Maeklong, which is well known for its railway market. The station is in the middle of a huge, local market, and is usually packed with people. Just before the railway station vendors use the space between the rails for their trays of vegetables, fruit, fish, and more. Your guide will walk with you through the market along the tracks until the train arrives! Then, return to Bangkok.
Day 4
Fly to Chiang Mai - Wat Doi Suthep Tour
After breakfast, you’ll transfer to Suvarnabhumi Airport to connect with your flight to Chiang Mai.
Upon arrival in Chiang Mai you’ll meet your guide and drive to Chiang Mai’s most famous landmark—Wat Prathat Doi Suthep. The temple is located at the summit of 1,676 meter-high Doi Suthep Mountain, which towers over the city. Climb the 300-step staircase, flanked by nagas (serpent-like deities), or take the cable car up. The cool air and spectacular sunset views make the trip worth the effort. As dusk falls, you'll be taken to the hotel and have the evening at your leisure.
Day 5
Local Lanna Family Cooking experience
A 15 minute drive out of Chiang Mai leads you to a traditional Lanna family, continuing the traditional methods of building their homes of teak wood and maintaining the natural surroundings. Use traditional home recipes with authentic Northern Thai flavors, which are different from standard dishes offered in commercial cooking classes. Select fresh ingredients from the garden to add to today’s cooking extravaganza. Take full advantage of the opportunity to get to know a real Thai family, be their house guest for the day and enjoy a delicious home cooked lunch with them.
DAY 6
Kanta Elephant Sanctuary
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Chiang Mai and driven approximately 50 min. north through rolling hills, forest, and local farming areas to the Kanta Elephant Sanctuary. This sanctuary is one of the most ethical elephant sanctuaries in Thailand, offering a reprieve for elephants who were previously overworked in the tourism or logging industries. You will change into traditional clothing, prepare fruits for our elephants, and finally meet our elephants. Spend time feeding, roaming, touching, and playing with these incredible, intelligent creatures. We will allow you to spend as much time as possible with the elephants.
After lunch, we will prepare a lunch for our elephants of sticky rice mixed with herbs. We will learn about their background, their health care, and behavior of elephants. Enjoy more time roaming, feeding and walking with elephants to the river. Take your time with the elephants to enjoy each moment of their freedom: scratching, rubbing, throwing dirt, and enjoying the view.
Following a tea and coffee break, we’ll leave the Kanta Elephant Sanctuary and return to your lodging in Chiang Mai.
