Root Adventures' Anniversary with the RUBAR!
Last weekend we celebrated the birthday of Root Adventures in style. What better way to celebrate the spirit of adventure than with a costume-clad scavenger hunt race around our Denver neighborhood, topped with a couple adult beverages? In what will surely become an annual tradition, the RUBAR (Root’s Urban Birthday Adventure Race) had several dozen friends of Root commence the 3-mile course with the “newspaper challenge” - precariously riding cruiser bicycles while chucking rolled-up newspapers to their waiting teammates several meters away.
“It’s important to not take adventure too seriously! Dressing up in costumes, running around Denver, acting like kids - it’s all part of celebrating new experiences, exploring your home city, and meeting new people,” said Root Adventures founder, Breanne Kiefner.
The competitors explored the historical Five Points neighborhood of Denver, commonly referred to as the “Harlem of the West” during the mid-20th Century due to its reputation as an epicenter of Jazz music. Legend has it that Louis Armstrong would often play front porch sessions in a house around the corner from Root Adventure’s office! The neighborhood also became popular with the beatnik subculture and frequent stomping grounds of author Jack Kerouac.
Adventure can be found anywhere, from your home city to the jagged peaks of Patagonia. All that is necessary is a willingness to look ridiculous running around a random Saturday afternoon in costume and a child’s sense of wonder. Of course, we’re happy to ensure you have an unforgettable experience if you opt for the international adventure, too!
Congrats to all our competitors, especially our winners: Trey, Sarah & Cooper! Be sure to sign up for a mailing list if you want to be the first to hear about our 2nd Annual RUBAR! Coming to the Root Adventure’s Denver HQ in mid-October 2019!
